What is freedom?
In the United States, we often take our freedom for granted. We forget that there are people around the world who can't even imagine what it is like to live without fear of being persecuted for their beliefs or having a government system that will actively try to silence them. In this Patriotic blog post, we will discuss the current state of freedom in America.
Liberty is a word that means many things to different people. But the most practical explanation of liberty involves exercising fundamental rights which are protected by our Constitution, such as free speech and voting. Other important liberties include freedom from restraints on travel and association with others in America's diverse community".
Perhaps the best explanation of liberty involves the exercise of fundamental rights. Rights that are fundamental under the Constitution include the right to free speech, which is perhaps the most recognizable fundamental right we have (which is under attack), and the right to vote, perhaps the second most recognizable fundamental right. Also encompassed in the definition include other fundamental rights, such as the right to free association, and the right to be free from restraints on travel.
I ask you to ask yourself if you have more freedom today than you did 20 or 30 years ago. Do you? I doubt it. Big tech and our own government are colluding to reduce your right to free speech. Write the content that Facebook or Twitter doesn’t like and you are banned! Put a banner up on your house in support of our former president and you may get sued! Can you travel without a mask or truly associate with others without fear? I think not.
What can we do about it? We can exercise our right to vote. We can use our wallet to vote. We can write blogs about what we see and hear. We must not be silent. We must vote for those running for office that value freedom. Do so without fear.
